Don’t go crazy with content blocks, just because you have options. The following list details each content block and what it does. I have marked the different content blocks, so you can identity what these look like in: But don’t assume that you are stuck with a cookie cutter website! The customizable content blocks allow you to make it your own and divert from a template.īelow, I have a section of one of my landing pages designed in Squarespace. What’s so great about Squarespace blocks? I like that they act somewhat like plugins, which makes it super easy for you to add all kinds of content by simply dragging and dropping. For the purpose of Squarespace, it’s less confusing to refer to these as “content blocks.” You will likely be working with these content blocks one at a time, and only would need to know what content is nesting within other content if you are doing some advanced code. Divs can be various sizes and contain more divs within them. In web design and development, blocks are usually referred to as “divs,” which is a division or section of a website. Blocks are literally the building blocks of your website- they are like puzzle pieces that form a whole- a well balanced site. ![]() This is SO useful and something I use in every single website I design.Blocks are sections of content in Squarespace you can edit or add (drag and drop.) These include text blocks, image blocks, code blocks, etc. ![]() This is a REALLY easy way to organise the content on your site.īest of all, if you don’t want the spacer blocks above your new content grid, once you’re done with the design, you can simply delete this one-by-one, and the grid underneath remains intact. You can have as many columns as you like (within reason). This is how I created this effect for my resource library: Then all you need to do is drop the content underneath each column to organise it side-by-side. You can add spacer blocks side by side one another to help you organise content on your website in a ‘grid’ effect.Īll you need to do is add spacer blocks and then drag and drop them side by side one another, so that you create a row of columns. This is a real game-changer, and a trick my website clients love when I show them on our training calls. 2 It allows you to create grid layouts super easily There are two ways to use a spacer block to add space around your content.Įither by putting them above and below it to space out the different sections on your site, or by popping spacer blocks either side of image and text blocks, to make those blocks narrower. People tend to skim read pages, so lots of white space around select images and short, to-the-point text helps the eye find it. Remember: less is more when it comes to website design. In 2020, we don’t want our website to look cluttered and we certainly don’t want wall-to-wall text or images (that stretch the entire width of our website). Using the spacer block helps you to spread out elements on your site (which you should do) to help things breathe and help draw attention to the content you want.
